Who is this training for?

Advisory work comes in many shapes and sizes, and your overall approach and interpersonal skills are likely to be as vital to success as your specialist and specific expertise.

This training is designed specifically for those wanting to build their repertoire and range of advisory skills. It is particularly suited to those new to the processes of advisory and consultancy work and will introduce a range of approaches to support contracting, building effective relationships and project management.  It will also be of benefit to those with experience of advisory work, who would like to get better results or gain greater confidence with their interpersonal skills.

Why consider this course?

The course is designed around a key question: how do you ensure you provide quality services as an adviser? In this course you will explore what it means to be a credible adviser, and how you can build your reputation through effective approaches that support and empower your clients while demonstrating your personal effectiveness.

What will I learn from the programme?

Raised awareness of the interpersonal and communication skills that get results and how to use them to best effect. The course will cover three key areas:

  • Contracting: information gathering and effective questioning skills, including ecology checks, gaining clarity about the brief, goal setting, agreeing outcomes and outputs
  • Building effective relationships: building trust and rapport, engaging with your client, influencing and leadership skills, personal impact; different ways of promoting and facilitating problem solving.
  • Project management including evaluation and effective planning; using meta programmes to support the understanding of your own personal attributes in relation to organisational skills; how to make the most of these to get the job done and demonstrate you have met the brief.

Who is delivering the training?

Dr Tony Birch and Eithne Leming are delivering this course.

Dr Tony Birch is an experienced adviser having held senior roles in a north-west Local Authority for more than twenty years before subsequently founding his own consultancy company (Birch Education Ltd). He is a Senior Associate of the Association of Education Advisers.

Eithne Leming has worked as an adviser for 14 years running her own consultancy businesses (Eithne Leming Associates Ltd and Gemstones Education Ltd).  She is also an accredited member of the Association of Education Advisers.

How will I engage with the programme?

Through a blend of presentations, case studies, small group work and practical tasks this course will introduce three key areas of advisory work: contracting, building effective ‘advisory’ relationships and project management. Delegates will learn practical skills and strategies through which they can develop their advisory work.  Both Tony and Eithne are trained in NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) and will share with you some effective tools for the adviser toolkit that can make your skill set stand out from the crowd.

The cost of this training session is £70 for members, or £100 for non-members.
